The Rotary Club of South Woodham Ferrers donates to MNDA
Pat Ahlquist is a volunteer for MNDA and gave a very comprehensive talk to Rotarians at a recent meeting of the Club, about the vital work of the Motor Neurone Disease Association followed by her colleague Gill Gibson giving her personal experiences on the impact of the disease leading to the loss of her own husband.
The disease is a life shortening condition which affects the nerves controlling movement for which no complete cure is currently available. The Association’s amazing goal is to have a world free from this disease which debilitates all areas of normal life -movement; speech; eating and breathing and effects, surprisingly, one in three hundred people.
It is the only charity in the UK promoting global research into this disease - they are funding 155 research studies worldwide. But MNDA also provide welcomed support to patients and carers through a network of branches and regional care advisors and David Shea - Vice President of the Rotary Club was pleased to confirm a contribution from our Club to their fund raising efforts which will help support people locally, due to the generosity of the wider SWF community to our charitable events.
